Lots going on in August 2014

Had lunch at The Garrison House on Thursday August 7th with Mike Berlis and Norm Holmes.  Great lunch with great guys and we talked about making a Les Marmiton wine for this year.  Great idea and we could also end up making a Les Marmiton beer later in the year.  I suggested to the guys that we do 100 cases of Chardonnay and 100 cases of Cabernet Franc.  Hopefully this wine will sell quickly.

Took the week of August 11th to the 15th off as a vacation week, however I did go in Monday morning to deal with an issue at work.  It was a pain because we could have stayed at the trailer longer.

During our vacation it was Karen’s birthday (the big 49).  I got her the rechargeable phone case for her iphone.  I think she liked it.

I also did some bike riding, some errands and generally took it quite easy.  This will be the last vacation for me for some time.

Karen and I went to the trailer on the last weekend of the vacation with no guests.  It was relaxing.  I went down to the kayak place to inquire about kayaking (bought some kayak shoes) did a few chores around the trailer, watched The Wolf of Wall Street and enjoyed alone time with my lovely wife.

On the Saturday we had a few glasses of wine with our neighbours Ron and Tracey and then went out for dinner to Johnny Famous for our anniversary dinner.  Always like Johnny Famous with its eclectic décor and great food.

On Sunday Karen and I went to the Dunnville Fair.  Yes I said the Dunnville Fair.  We were definitely trailer trash that weekend.  At the fair we saw an antique car show, boat races and ate some greasy yummy fair food

.

Back to work on the Monday.  It is getting harder and harder to get excited about work after a vacation.  I must be getting older.

Karen was busy getting things done with Margo so she could go to the Palace Conference in Mexico on Thursday.  She actually left Wednesday night and stayed overnight at the airport.  She is doing so well with her new entrepreneurial endeavor.  I am very proud of her.

Thursday, I go to the dentist for a normal cleaning.  Everything is going fine and they say we should do an X-ray to make sure. Comes back with a problem. The dentist sends me to a specialist. It turns out I have Tooth Resorption. Tooth resorption is when the cells in a person’s body destroy his tooth. Cells attack and wear away a person’s tooth from the inside. They don't know what really causes this either. To get fixed with no guarantees is going to cost a lot of money. Now I have to check with benefits to see if they will cover more than $500 of the $2,000 estimate. All I was doing was getting my damn teeth cleaned. They will cover 2/3 rds of the cost.  Still looking into another option.

The weekend came and the very first Niagara Craft Beer Festival was on at Montebello Park.  Great first effort for the festival.  Few tweaks needed for next year (seating, signs, and shade/rain cover).  The teaching brewery did well at the festival and I think over all a big success.

Saturday morning I drove to Dunnville and had a beginner’s class of kayaking on the Grand River.  I thoroughly enjoyed this.  This is definitely something that I want to pursue.  I was a bit bored during class because I think it was a bit slow for me but had to accommodate everyone in the class.  I can’t wait to do this again.

Saturday night Dustin, Leeann and Sirena went to the trailer and stayed until Monday.  Glad they got to use it.  They work a lot of weekends so it doesn’t always work for them.

I do miss Karen.  I look forward to her coming home.
